Ecological, phytosanitary, and agronomic aspects of target weeds for biological control studies in Antioquia, Colombia Acta Agron. (Palmira)
Mira Taborda,Yerly Dayana; Castañeda Sánchez,Darío Antonio; Morales Osorio,Juan Gonzalo; Patiño Hoyos,Luis Fernando.
ABSTRACT Biological control as part of integrated weed management represents an emerging and promising method to minimize the use and impact of herbicides on the environment. The objective of this research was to determine the ecological, phytosanitary, and agronomic status of weeds associated with crops in Antioquia, Colombia, and their potential to be chosen as candidates for biological control studies using pathogenic fungi. The research was carried out through a sampling of weeds in 35 agricultural farms, distributed in 11 municipalities and 10 different crops, on which population ecological variables such as frequency and dominance were evaluated; phytosanitary variables such as incidence and severity of foliar fungal symptoms; as well as some...

Glyphosate Resistance Affect the Physiological Quality of Conyza bonariensis seeds Planta Daninha
PIASECKI,C.; MAZON,A.S.; AGOSTINETTO,D.; VARGAS,L..
ABSTRACT: High seed production and dispersal capacity and glyphosate resistance are among the main factors that have made hairy fleabane (Conyza bonariensis) one of the most important and dispersed weeds in the world. Herbicide-resistant weeds populations may have fitness cost due to molecular, physiological, and biochemical changes. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological quality of seeds of Conyza spp. and determine whether glyphosate resistance causes fitness costs for resistant biotypes. Seeds from six hairy fleabane biotypes, three glyphosate-resistant and three -sensitive, with a resistance factor average of 11.7 were studied. Among the studied biotypes, five were identified as C. bonariensis and one as C. blakei. Seed analyses were performed...

Growth, Development and Seed Production of Goosegrass1 Planta Daninha
TAKANO,H.K.; OLIVEIRA JR,R.S.; CONSTANTIN,J.; BRAZ,G.B.P.; PADOVESE,J.C..
ABSTRACT E. indica is one of the most problematic weeds in the world because it is present in almost every continent, and there are reports of multiple resistance to herbicides by some biotypes. The objective of this paper was to analyze the growth, the development and the production of this plant's seeds, in order to generate information about its biology that can be useful for management. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse from May to September 2015. Sixteen samples were taken during the development cycle of the plant: 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, 38, 45, 52, 59, 66, 73, 80, 87, 94, 101 and 108 days after emergence (DAE). The response variables were based on a leaf area and dry matter of each one of the parts of the plant and the number of seeds...

Response of imidazolinone-resistant and -susceptible weedy rice populations to imazethapyr and increased atmospheric CO2 Planta Daninha
B. Piveta,Leonard; Roma-Burgos,Nilda; Noldin,José A.; P. Refatti,João; Oliveira,Claudia; Avila,Luis A..
Abstract Background: Weedy rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the main weed of rice crop. The high genetic variability of weedy rice contributes to the high phenotypic diversity between biotypes and different responses to environmental stress. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the response of imidazolinone-susceptible and -resistant weedy rice populations to increased atmospheric [CO2]. Methods: The experiment was arranged in a complete randomized design with six replications. The treatments included two [CO2] concentration (700 and 400 μmol mol-1) and three treatments: resistant genotype (IMI-resistant) treated with imazethapyr; resistant genotype without imazethapyr, and a susceptible genotype without imazethapyr. Results: The IMI-resistant...
